Strengthening coordination in fight drug-related crimes
Attending the conference were Major General Vu Trung Kien, Deputy Commander of Operations and Law Department of the Coast Guard Command; Major General Do Ngoc Canh, Director of the Department of Drug and Crime Prevention of the Border Guard; Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Vien, Director of the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department (C04) under the Ministry of Public Security; Director of the Anti-Smuggling Investigation Department under the General Department of Customs Nguyen Hung Anh.
Reporting on the coordination among the four agencies in the second quarter of 2024, Colonel Pham Tien Dang, Deputy Director of the Department of Operations and Law, Coast Guard Command said that complicated drug trafficking on all routes have caused many difficulties and challenges for the authorities. Although the coordination and control of authorities has been strengthened, the control and fight against drug crimes still faces many difficulties.

In particular, the authorities have proactively exchanged information, situations, developments, complications, and tricks of drug criminals in different areas and regions and shared experiences in fighting against drug offences. With active information exchange and situation monitoring, the four authorities have shared 152 valuable sources of information and documents to serve the combat against drug-related crimes.
Coordination among the four agencies has been regularly focused and achieved higher efficiency. Specifically, during the Jan-June period of the year, C04 coordinated with related forces to handle 17,129 cases, arresting 27,905 suspects; seizing over 330 kg of heroin, more than 1.7 tons and 1.8 million synthetic drug pills, and nearly 1 ton of marijuana.
The Border Guard presided over and coordinated with others to seize 327 cases with 413 arrests, confiscating 659,149 kg of drugs of all kinds; the Coast Guard presided over and coordinated with others to handle 139 specialized cases with 204 arrests, confiscating 5.8 kg of heroin, 149 kg of synthetic drugs, 21.3 kg of marijuana, 21 kg of cocaine; the Customs presided and coordinated with others to seize 183 cases with 216 arrests, confiscating 1.2 tons of drugs of all kinds.
At the conference, representatives of the four agencies discussed and analyzed difficulties and limitations and proposed many solutions to bring the coordination in fight against drug crimes into reality and achieve higher results.
Assessing the coordination work, Major General Vu Trung Kien said that in the third quarter of 2024, coordination among the Police, Border Guard, Customs, and Coast Guard has been accelerated and implemented seriously, achieving many positive results. The exchange of information and handling of drug cases among specialized agencies has been implemented quickly and effectively.
It is forecasted that the drug crime situation will have many very sophisticated methods and tricks and complex developments on all levels, therefore, Major General Vu Trung Kien proposed that the forces continue to promote the mechanism of exchange and sharing of information and experiences to effectively fight drug crimes in the coming time.
At the same time, continuing to advise the heads of the three ministries to propose and recommend to the Party and State to improve institutions and create a legal corridor to ensure that specialized forces carry out their tasks effectively.
In particular, units need to coordinate more practically and effectively to build and implement common and specific plans through basic and thematic investigations.
