The seminar will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on December 2, 2022 in Ho Chi Minh City.

Attending the seminar are the leaders of the General Department of Customs; Leader of the Office of the National Steering Committee for Anti-smuggling, Counterfeit Goods and Trade Fraud (National Steering Committee 389), Leader of Anti-Smuggling Investigation Department (General Department of Customs); representatives of Customs, Border Guard, Public Security, Market Surveillance Agencies in southern provinces and cities; Ho Chi Minh City Consumer Protection Association; business associations; businesses, e-commerce companies, e-commerce floors; and media agencies.

The smuggling, counterfeiting and trade fraud have been taking place with unpredictable and sophisticated methods and tricks, especially before, during and after the Lunar New Year when people's demand for goods increases sharply, so smugglers and counterfeiters expand their operations.

Authorities have handled many violations, and arrested many suspects in a timely manner, preventing the establishment of hot spots for smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeiting.

According to the report of the National Steering Committee 389, in the first 10 months of 2022, authorities nationwide handled nearly 100,000 cases (12,275 cases of smuggling and illegal transportation of contraband goods, 82,678 cases of trade fraud and tax fraud, 1,866 cases of counterfeit goods, intellectual properties and collected) and collected VND 7,666 billion to the State budget (up 1.5% year-on-year), prosecuted 380 cases (down 76.47% year-on-year) and 472 suspects (down 78.03% year-on-year).

For customs alone, in the 10 months of 2022, the customs handled around 14,000 violations with nearly VND4,800 billion of infringing goods.

However, in some key routes and areas, the situation of crime, violations of smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and goods infringing intellectual property rights and origins has remained complicated and tended to increase.

Taking advantage of the risk management policy to fail to declare or declare incorrectly actually imported goods to evade taxes and transport banned goods and conditional imported goods is still a problem. Taking advantage of e-commerce to trade contraband and counterfeit goods is still complicated when the demand of consumers to buy goods in cyberspace increases.

Therefore, the Seminar "Joining hands to fight contraband and counterfeit goods, protecting corporate brands and consumers' interests" is held to create a forum for discussing and assessing the current situation of contraband and counterfeit goods and measures to control, prevent and detect contraband and counterfeit goods to protect legitimate businesses and consumers' interests.
