It is known that Pomina Steel Company has not opened customs declarations for 17 imported scrap containers yet. Therefore, besides the container containing cocaine that was detected on 24/7, the customs authorities have not conducted inspection of the remaining 16 containers yet.

Regarding to those scrap shipments, Mr. Do Xuan Chieu, Chairman of the Board of Pomina Steel Corporation, said that the company and its partners were very surprised to receive this information about containers containing 100 bars of cocaine. Currently, the partner of the company has flown to Vietnam and willing to cooperate with the investigation authority to quickly conclude the case.

According to Mr. Chieu, all 17 containers were waste products imported from Singapore, in that only one container had the seal changed and the investigating agency inspected the container then found the prohibited items. Due to the Pomina Company not having opened the customs declaration yet, so they have not paid for this shipment.

The import process of the company is that when the contract is signed, the foreign partner will pack shipment. Then it will be shipped to the shipping line and the partner will report the time of departure, arrival, number of containers and series of seals. Mr. Chieu asserted that the procedure of importing steel scraps when arriving at Ba Ria-Vung Tau, the company implemented strictly because they have been working with partners for many years and not raised any problems.

The Pomina 2 Company also affirmed that they did not import prohibited goods and is actively coordinating with the owner and the competent authorities in order to clarify the problem. The initial inspection showed that the actual seals at the time of inspection on the container did not match with the receipt and bill of lading that the owner provided to Pomina Steel Company 2.

Besides that, Pomina 2 Company has been operating in Ba Ria - Vung Tau since May 2007 as a large scrap importer in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province. According to information from Cai Mep port Customs Branch, so far, in the course of procedures at the unit, Pomina 2 Corporation has not made any major violation of customs law. From the beginning of the year, Pomina 2 Company has opened 592 import declarations of iron and steel scrap for steel billet with the total import volume of 176,776 tons, valued at over $US 56 million.
