HCM City detects a large number of drugs sent from the US to Vietnam for the first time.

The city department handled 78 cases of drugs, over 197.54kg of drugs and drug precursors, including over 108 kg of marijuana, 31.49kg of methamphetamine, 13.43kg of precursors, 25.04kg MDMA, 18.16kg of heroin, 320g of cocaine and 760g of ketamine.

Notably, the department detected and promptly prevented about 20 kg of drugs hidden inside coffee packages imported from the US. This is the first time that a large number of drugs was transported from the US to Vietnam.

Recently, some suspects have abused preferential policies in procedures for exported goods to hide large quantities of drug precursors in packages of coffee, jelly, and vegetarian food for export.

The Department said besides the drug trafficking taking place by air route across Singapore, Australia, etc., the situation also occurs in new routes across Malaysia and Korea.
