Illegal cash over 1 billion VND crossing the border

Through the situation, on August 18th, the Custom Control team collaboratedwith Traffic Police at Tan Hong district – Dong Thap, who stoppedaLEXUS vehicle, registered number 20 – 5774, driven by Mr Nguyen Quoc Binh, born in 1975, lived at Phum Dam Co, Sa Dach, Pray Veng, Cambodia.

On checking the car, the functional force discovered 1.05 billion VND and 400 kg rice, in 20 bags, with the word Campodiaon the outside, without aCertificate of Origin. The Custom Control team escorted the goods, Mr Binh and the car to the office for investigation.

Mr Binh said that the 1.05 billion VND is his own money, he exchanged from Cambodian money to Vietnam dongto bring it illegally to Vietnam and pay for goods. In order to hide from the functional agency, at the Cambodia border, Mr Binh passed the money to his wife’s brother whowent by boat crossing the river intoVietnam.Mr Binh travwelled byroad to crossing the Dinh Ba border gate.

After going through the Dinh Ba border gate, Mr Binh drove the car to the meeting place near Dinh Ba gate to get back the money from his brother, thencontinued drivinguntil being arrested by the agency.

Now the Customs Control team is continuing to complete the procedures and move to Dong Thap Customs Department to finalise this case.
