The local customs department released a report on the imports and exports of the city in the first seven months of this year.

Customs officials in Hai Phong area collected tariffs on import and exports worth more than VND34 billion, a rise of 26.6% compared with the previous year. The figure was equal to 67% of the annual target by the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

Total trade across Hai Phong Customs Department in July was up 18% compared with the previous year to about VND9 billion.

In a report, the local customs department said the city exported about US$4.5 billion worth of goods, up 22% from a year earlier.

Meanwhile, imports rose by 14.2% to some US$4.5 billion from a year earlier.

Imports of autos and auto parts rocketed by 282 % and 522% to about US$120 million and US$67 million, respectively.

Other imports, like motorcycle spare parts, petroleum products and cosmetics, also saw surges in their imports.

However, imports of motorcycles, iron and steel, machinery and equipment fell to US$0.1 million, US$184 million and US$307 million, respectively.
