Talking to Customs News, Ms. Sabine Henzler, the representative of Directorate-General for Tax and Customs Union (EU TAXUD) appreciated contributions of Vietnam Customs to ASEM Customs cooperation and the successful organization of the 13th Meeting of Customs Directors - General Customs and Commissioners in Ha Long city, Quang Ninh, Vietnam.

“I think Vietnam has made great contributions to ASEM Customs cooperation. This meeting is a very significant event that has united so many countries here. You have organized a perfect and wonderful meeting, we joined a warm gala dinner with the hospitability of the host country.

In addition to successfully organizing this meeting, Vietnam also had an impressive presentation on experience in combating illegal trafficking of CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora). Thereby, the Customs Administrations have learned a lot from Vietnam in this area,” Ms. Henzler said.

Ms. Henzler added that ASEM Customs cooperation in recent years has achieved good results. The organization of formal and informal dialogues helped ASEM Customs Administrations to exchange best practices and share experiences in handling Customs matters.

In the framework of ASEM Customs cooperation, Ms. Henzler expected that in the future, ASEM Customs Administrations should enhance cooperation activities, especially issues on connectivity-transit, intellectual property rights, combat against fraud, and waste and waste shipment.
