Dong Thap Customs seizes 1,350kg of smuggled sugar

VCN – Dong Thap Customs Department and relevant agencies arrested a smuggler transporting 27 bags of refined sugar from Cambodia to Vietnam.

Following the plan on combating smuggling, commercial fraud and counterfeit goods before, during and after the 2022 Lunar New Year, the Customs Enforcement Team under Dong Thap Customs Department coordinated with Police of Thuong Lac Commune and Cau Muong Border Guard Station to control the border area.

The working team discovered and arrested some suspects using motorbikes to transport refined sugar from Thuong Lac Commune inland.

When detecting the working team, the suspects left their goods and drove to Cambodia to escape.

At the scene, the working team detected and seized 27 bags of refined sugar with a total weight of 1,350kg made in Thailand.

Ahead of the Lunar New Year, refined sugar is one of the products that is illegally transported by smugglers from the Cambodian border to Vietnam for consumption.
