Smuggled cigarettes are “hot”

On February 2, 2021, according to information provided by people, Customs Enforcement Team under Dong Nai Customs Department worked with Unit 3, Economic Police Division of Dong Thap province Police to patrol Highway 30 (from Cong Muoi Xinh to Muong Lon brigde belong to the area of An Loi halmet, An Binh A ward, Hong Ngu City). The force discovered two cases of gathering smuggled goods. The exhibits included 1,650 packs of smuggled foreign cigarettes.

These cigarettes were transported by subjects on motorbikes, camouflaged and hidden in cartons and PP bags from the border area inland. When transporting to the above area, competent force detected and chased so the subjects threw goods on the street and then fled.

According to the Customs Enforcement Team, before the Lunar New Year, subjects often used motorcycles to split contraband goods, mainly cigarettes transported from the border area, and gathered at some points to bring to passenger car for transporting inland.

On the eve of the XIII National Congress of the Party, implementing the instructions of the Provincial People's Committee, the General Department of Vietnam Customs and the leaders of Dong Thap Customs Department, the Customs enforcement force worked with competent forces to strengthen patrols to prevent and combating all kinds of crimes, especially against smuggling and illegal transport of goods across the border in key areas.

From the beginning of 2021 up to now, the Customs Enforcement Team has tackled 20 cases of violation, with exhibits of more than 10,000 packs of foreign cigarettes; 300 kg of crystalline sugar, 2,507 bottles of BILNEURO 5000 NEUROVIT 5000 and 2,592 tubes of BILNEURO NEUROVIT 5000 originating illegal imports.

The goods were transported from the border inland by smugglers, disguised in many forms, gathered at places along Highway 30 to put them on a bus or use motorbikes on rural roads to move deeply into inland for domestic consumption. At the time of arresting, the subjects tried to flee or did not come to receive goods. So cases of seizure had no owners.

The peak time of blocking smuggled goods

According to Dong Thap Customs Department, smuggling and illegal transport of goods across border has not happened complicatedly and has not increased compared to the same period last year. The reason is that competent forces have strengthened work to prevent the Covid-19 pandemic so they strictly inspected and controlled people, vehicles and goods crossing the border. Smuggled goods are mainly foreign cigarettes, crystallised sugar, alcohol, soft drinks, modern medicine, fine arts wood, agricultural products, Vietnamese currency and live pigs.

However, at the Tet holiday, due to a number of consumer goods with high price difference between Vietnam and Cambodia, some people in the border area have participated in illegal trading and transport of goods across the border.

Currently, Dong Thap Customs force continues to work with competent forces to focus on fighting smuggling, trade fraud, illegal transport of goods across border, especially before, during and after Tet, contributing to ensuring economic security, order and safety in the area.

At the border gates, the leaders of Dong Thap Customs Department instructed the border-gate customs branches to manage the area assigned to be in charge, while ensuring State management of customs and effectively prevent Covid-19 pandemic, avoiding arising cases of smuggling, transportation of banned goods and drugs in their management areas. Maintain coordination with competent forces and enlist the consent of the Party Committee, local authorities and the support of the people in this task.

Implementation must ensure safety; resolutely coordinate in preventing objects from aggravating and resisting law enforcement officers. Always control the smuggling situation and prevent the formation of smuggling lines and groups.
