Discover gold bar hidden in personal luggage of Korean passenger

VCN - A 39-year-old Korean national passenger has been discovered and arrested by a customs official after hiding a gold bar worth nearly 700 million VND in his luggage when taking a flight to Incheon, South Korea.

The bar gold which was exported illegally, was seized by Tan Son Nhat International Airport Customs Branch.

The incident was discovered by the Tan Son Nhat International Airport Customs Branch in coordination with Tan Son Nhat Aviation security center.

As known, through monitoring suspicious signs an unexpected check of baggage belonging to H.W.I, of Korean nationality, was carried out. By applying professional measures, the customs authorities discovered a piece of gold worth nearly 700 million VND, hidden in his personal belongings when leaving the country.

This item is not allowed to be taken out of the country without the correct customs declaration procedures, in accordance to the regulations of the State Bank of Vietnam. With this behavior, if convicted, the suspect could face up to two to five years in prison.

At present, the Tan Son Nhat Airport Customs Branch has temporarily seized all evidences and is cooperating with the competent force to investigate and handle according to the law.
