Customs significantly contributes to Dong Nai's economic recovery

Supporting quick economic recovery
Director of Dong Nai Customs Department Phung Thi Bich Huong said there are more than 4,000 enterprises engaging in import and export activities in Dong Nai province. In 2021, the Covid-19 pandemic affected all areas of social life,production and business activities of enterprises.
Many enterprises in Dong Nai faced difficulties in coping with the pandemic and seeking orders, labor, and increased production costs due to surge in imported raw materials, transportation, logistics, and petrol prices. Besides, the world political situation has recently had many complicated developments. The Russia - Ukraine war has had a significant impact on trade, investment, production and business activities, as well as global goods circulation.
Therefore, the leaders of Dong Nai province have requested agencies, departments and sectors to offer solutions to support businesses and remove difficulties and problems faced by businesses. The General Department of Customs has also issued many documents to direct local Customs Departments to make efforts to implement reform measures to facilitate import and export activities.
Director of Dong Nai Customs Department Phung Thi Bich Huong said that Dong Nai Customs has actively grasped the situation and developed solutions to remove difficulties and create favorable conditions for businesses, thereby, contributing to helping businesses stabilize and develop production. As the result, import-export turnover at the unit in 2021 rose 22.4% year-on-year to US$36.2billion, and the unit was appreciated by the customs sector and was on the top of the ranking of the nationwide Customs industry.
Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee Vo Tan Duc praised Dong Nai Customs Department's efforts in implementing practical solutions to conduct fast customs clearance, even amid the peak of the pandemic. Along with that, the activeness of business associations of Taiwan, Korea and Japan in Dong Nai acted as a bridge between businesses and state management agencies.
The Vice Chairman assessed that, with the effective coordination between businesses and Customs, import-export businesses in Dong Nai province have made important contributions to the province’s economic development. Currently, the economic recovery and development in Dong Nai province has made many progress; most businesses have resumed operations and the growth rate of gross product in the first quarter of 2022 rose by 6.14% year-on-year.
With the strong and comprehensive development of Dong Nai province, especially when Long Thanh airport comes into operation, opportunities for investment will open up along with development opportunities for businesses. Accordingly, businesses need to continue studying to expand production and business, diversifying business fields to bring more investment efficiency in Dong Nai province, said Nguyen Tan Phat.

At the conference, many businesses such as Taekwang Vina Company, Harada Company expressed their appreciation for the support of Dong Nai Customs during the pandemic.
"Even in peak periods, the "three-on-the-spot" force of Customs always gave maximum support to the customs clearance, so goods were released quickly without any congestion or delay,” the representative of Harada Company said.
According to businesses, the support of Customs helps import and export activities was not interrupted, creating a foundation for a quick recovery after the pandemic came under under control.
Mizushima, Chairman of the Japan Business Association in Ho Chi Minh City, said, the Japan Business Association in Ho Chi Minh City has 1,038 member businesses, divided into 13 groups based on production and business line and locations. In these, Dong Nai group consists of enterprises operating in Dong Nai has more than 130 members with more than 60,000 employees.
Dong Nai province has many industrial parks, including some developed by Japanese investors and the construction of Long Thanh international airport is being accelerated. These make Dong Nai always an attractive investment destination for Japanese businesses.
"The fact that many Japanese businesses operate for a long time in the province is thanks to the provincial government, especially the customs officers who always support and create favorable conditions for the businesses,” Mr. Mizushima said.

In addition, businesses also appreciated that Dong Nai Customs held a business dialogue conferences to listen and solve problems for businesses. According to businesses, the dialogue conferences are the foundation for a stronger and stronger strategic cooperative partnership.
