At the conference, Director General Nguyen Van Can assessed results in performance and set out goals and solutions to perform tasks in 2023 and emphasized that the Customs sector accomplished targets and tasks in 2022.

To achieve positive results, since the beginning of the year, the whole Customs sector has actively followed the Government's Resolutions and Directives, the direction of the leaders of the Ministry of Finance, and issued key work plans for the whole year and Directive No.439/CT-TCHQ on the comprehensive implementation of measures to facilitate trade and prevent revenue loss in 2022.

The Customs sector always requests and drastically and effectively performs both tasks of trade facilitation and effective customs control, contributing to maintaining the security of the community.

"Thanks to the good implementation of trade facilitation measures, import and export turnover hit and exceeded US$700 billion for the first time. The increase in turnover and the effective implementation of measures to prevent revenue loss had made good growth in revenue for the whole year", said the Director General.

Regarding the performance of the tasks in 2023, the Director General requested the whole sector to strictly comply with the direction of the Minister of Finance Ho Duc Phoc at the online conference to review the fiscal-budgetary performance in 2022 and set out tasks for 2023 held by the Ministry of Finance on December 19, especially the direction of Deputy Minister of Finance Nguyen Duc Chi and the goals at the conference, and solutions set out in the GDVC's report on the performance in 2022, the orientation and tasks in 2023.

The key tasks of the Customs sector in 2023 include performing well trade facilitation and maintaining effective customs control, contributing to ensuring the safety of the community.

The Director General asks the whole sector to continue to implement customs administrative reform and modernization and improve institutions and policies, especially focusing on well implementing the plan of digital transformation and digital customs.

"To perform this key task well, in addition to internal efforts, the GDVC wishes effective coordination from departments under the Ministry of Finance, " said Director General Nguyen Van Can.

Director General Nguyen Van Can requires all cadres, civil servants, employees, and especially heads of units to raise responsibility in performing their public duties.

"Heads of units from departments, branches to teams must strictly administer and manage officers performing their duties and keep discipline. Therefore, the GDVC's leaders will direct units to strengthen inspection and promote the use of modern equipment to promptly detect and strictly handle offences", said the Director General.

In 2022, the Customs sector promptly arrested and handled many notable violations, especially transnational drug trafficking rings.

In the year, the Customs force has led and coordinated to bust transnational drug trafficking rings and arrested many perpetrators. This shows the qualifications and skills in combating offences and effective collaboration in the performance of the customs force.

In 2023, it is forecast that smuggling and drug crimes will continue to be complicated, so the whole sector needs to promote the achievements and experience gained over the past, and uphold the proactive spirit to promptly arrest and handle violations.

The Director General also requests the sector to promote dissemination and international cooperation to improve the Customs sector's image, role and position.

To accomplish targets in 2023, Director General hopes to receive the direction and facilitation of the leaders of the Ministry of Finance and the effective coordination of departments under the Ministry.
