This is an activity in the framework of the Export Control and Related Border Security provided by the US Government to Vietnam customs, which aims to strengthen the capacity to prevent unlawful trading of commodities used for the purpose of developing weapons of mass destruction.
The US Government’s supports are shown in various forms such as training, raising awareness; assisting the review of the legal basis for strategic trade control; assisting the development of teaching materials on identification of dual-use goods and donating some equipment for the control including hand tools, image-scanning equipment for goods and means of transport and passengers on entry and exit.
Mr. Daniel Joseph Kritenbrink highly appreciated the importance of the event. "This is an important event, which demonstrates America's commitment to a strong, prosperous and independent Vietnam. Our goal is to further strengthen trade relations with Vietnam while ensuring safety of trading activities,” said Daniel Joseph Kritenbrink.
He also said that the X-ray scanner system allows imported goods to Vietnam be brought directly from the aircrafts into the scanner machine without unloading. This accelerates the process of Customs clearance and ensures the efficiency of Customs administration, as well as ensuring that the imported goods are exactly the same with what are declared in the import dossier and ensuring the safety for the Vietnamese people.
"In addition to providing equipment, the training for customs officers is an extremely important task, because our objective is to facilitate bilateral trade between the two sides, and at the same time ensuring the safety and security that imported goods to Vietnam are safe and are not banned goods, counterfeited goods and weapons of mass destruction, as well as ensuring the compliance with the Resolutions of the United Nations Security Council. I look forward to more activities between the two sides in this field to strengthen the relationship between the two countries,"- said Daniel Joseph Kritenbrink.
On this occasion, Deputy Director General of Customs Hoang Viet Cuong expressed his sincere gratitude to the entire staff of US experts for their active supports to Vietnam Customs in the framework of the Export Control and Related Border Security program, thanked the US Government agencies for their supports by contributing to ensure the security and stability of Vietnam in particular and in the region and in the world in general. He desired to continue to receive the support and help from the US in the professional fields for the Customs reform and modernization.
