Customs and Police coordinated to handle drug cases

According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in 2018, the Customs and Police authorities coordinated to arrest and handle 244 cases with 162 people. The value of infringing goods was VND 12 billion 927 million. Of which, 152 cases with 114 people were led and arrested by Customs. The value of infringing goods was VND 8 billion and 945 million.

A total 92 cases with 48 people were led and arrested by police. The value of infringing goods was VND 3 billion and 982 million.

Notably, Customs transferred and proposed the police prosecute 90 criminal cases.

In the first nine months of 2019, Customs coordinated with police to detect 69 cases of smuggling, illegal transportation of goods across borders and six drugs cases with 10 suspects.

The Customs transferred 64 cases to police for prosecution.

Police coordinated with the Customs Enforcement Force to detect 12 cases of smuggling and illegal transportation of goods across borders and arrest eight violators, 25 drug cases and 34 violators.

In the coordination between the two forces, the combat of drug crimes is one of activities that has achieved great efficiency.

Especially, from the beginning of 2019, a series of big transnational drug cases with hundreds of kilograms of synthetic drugs seized per case and hundreds of heroin packages were destroyed by the two forces.

For example, on March 20, implementing the Special plan 218 chaired by C04, Customs and relevant forces (Police and Border Guard) destroyed and seized 300 kg of crystal methamphetamine in Ho Chi Minh City and perpetrators, and identified the shipment of 276 kg crystal methamphetamine that left Vietnam and provided information to the Philippines authorities to promptly seize it.

On May 11, Ho Chi Minh City and the Investigation Police Department on Drug-related Crime-C04 (Ministry of Public Security) co-chaired and coordinated with Team 6 (under the Anti-smuggling and Investigation Department, General Department of Vietnam Customs), specialised units under Ministry of Public Security, units under Ho Chi Minh City Police and Division C04 of Binh Duong Province Police to detect four vacuum packing machines for pressing drugs and more than 500 kg of ketamine, arrested four suspects in Binh Chanh district (Ho Chi Minh City).

Special plan 791 was expanded on July 12 by the Ministry of Public Security, the Customs Enforcement Team (under Hai Phong Customs Department) coordinated with units under the Ministry of Public Security and the Coast Guard Command to arrest three people and seize 80 heroin packages on September 18 in Nam Dinh province. This is the largest drug case destroyed by Hai Phong Customs.

In addition, Customs and police authorities also coordinated to handle many violations related to the import of scrap, wildlife and mineral violations.
