This is one of the latest proposals of the Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Development to strengthen prevention of disease and ensure sanitation and food safety in the Dinh Dau Lunar New Year and the Spring Festival 2017.
In addition, the Minister of MARD also proposed the Department of Animal Health (under the MARD) strengthen the quarantine of animals and imported animal products to prevent the risk of disease spreading and ensure sanitation and food safety.
The Chairmen of People’s Committees of provinces and cities need to direct local authorities and local animal health systems to strengthen supervision to detect early any outbreaks to be handled efficiently and in a timely fashion when diseases arise; ensure active control of diseases in livestock and poultry and prevent outbreaks during and after the Tet holiday.
Strengthen quarantine and control of slaughter to prevent the spread of disease and ensure sanitation and food safety; especially control to prevent illegal transportation of animals and animal products across the border.

On the issue of ensuring sanitation and food safety, the localities need to organize planned and random inspections on food safety for food production and trading facilities of high risk such as agricultural, forestry and fisheries consumed in the Tet holiday (meat, vegetables, fruit…) in order to detect in a timely fashion and strictly handle the violations cases; widely publicize on the mass media the products that are not safe for people to know and avoid.
