The electricity price in 2017 will not be “crazy”

Mr. Vuong assessed that the fact that the electricity price in 2016 had changes compared to the plan but the changes were not big and are acceptable. 2016 recognized the efforts of the whole system that contributed to ensure a stable power supply for the whole country, production, daily life, the country’s development, and national energy security.

Noteworthy is that the electricity price in 2016 was not adjusted and is forecasted to not be “crazy” in 2017.

Regarding the electricity supply in 2017, Mr. Dinh The Phuc, Deputy Director of Electricity Regulatory Authority of Vietnam (Ministry of Industry and Trade) appreciated that generally, EVN was proactive to closely keep track of the weather conditions, production and business performance and directed member companies, and mobilized all resources to ensure stable electricity supply and national energy security

Considering the specific situation, EVN has studied 4 options on electricity supply in 2017; accordingly the units will review and comment. Mr. Dinh The Phuc suggested that EVN update again the status of water levels of lakes and release water regulatory plans in December to update for plans in January, 2017

Mr. Vuong also suggested EVN to care for maintenance of power plants, to ensure safe power supply because there were still many problems, even serious problems in 2016. “Supplying sufficient electricity but more important is ensuring safety in all cases” Mr. Vuong said.

With regard to problems of hydropower plants, he requested to review operational processes because the dry season of 2017 will be over fast and when the rainy season comes that brings many problems. Thus, the Groups, the Corporation and units under the Ministry should make plans and concurrently consider the responsibility of localities upon the implementation of flood discharge.

Mr. Vuong also stated that, the Prime Minister has directed to enhance the cooperation and collaboration with Laos in power supply. After reaching agreements with Laos on electricity price, if the electricity price is lower than electricity production cost in the home country, Vietnam will promote electricity import from Laos.
