As reported by the Customs Newspaper, on 26th January, in zone 5, Hai Yen Ward, Mong Cai City, the Customs Enforcement Team No.1 (Quang Ninh Customs Department) coordinated with C74 Department (Ministry of Public Security), PC46 Division (Quang Ninh Police) and competent agencies in the province to inspect the farm belonging to Mr. Pham Duc Nha, born in 1957 (residing in Zone 1, Ka Long Ward, Mong Cai City, Quang Ninh province) and seized 316 kg of pangolin scales.
According to the competent agency, the above-mentioned goods were hidden illegally and to be exported to China. Currently, the competent agency has completed the records and continued to investigate to clarify the case.

According to the results of animal testing by the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources on 5th February 2018, two specimens of animal scales included: small size pangolins scales (scientific name, Manis javanica ) in the phylum chordate (Annex I, List of endangered, precious and rare species of prioritized protection and Annex I, List of wild fauna and flora listed in Appendix of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora), and specimens of large size animal scales of Giant pangolin (Scientific name, Manis gigantea) listed in Appendix I, List of endangered species of wild fauna and flora in the Appendix of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.
