According to information from the Customs Department of Quang Tri. Over the past time, sugar, beer, and different goods through Lao Bao border gate increased sharply. Including the amount of white pure sugar from Thailand was procedure through Vietnam (Da Nang port, Lao Bao international border gate) and then transited to Laos. However, it does not eliminate the risk of smuggling this commodity to back home through the trail and the border opening.

As common of this occasion, the moving time of the season is also the time when the sharp increasing of the demand for consuming goods, especially white pure sugar goods, beer ..., this is the opportunity for smugglers to reinforce strong contraband activities. Just like in the adjacent area to the Cambodian border, after the goods of contraband sugar is transported across the border smoothly, the smuggling owners of sugar hire local villagers who are fluent in the living area tear and carry the smuggling sugar via trials and the opening path among Lao Bao Special Economic - Commercial Area (Gate B) with the interior. More sophisticated, some carriers who use a motorbike to transport between 1 and 2 sacks of sugar drive high speed to deliver goods to the point of collection.

Customs control forces in the area say that the using motorcyclist for smuggling often works in the evening. If functional forces organize to chase, it will endanger the people in traffic. However, grasping the rules of operation of the objects, the customs forces started to act and caught many gathering venues of illegal goods. In many cases, when discovered by the forces, most of the infringing goods are collected along the 9th Road (a route from Vietnam through Lao Bao to Lao). If the infringing goods are not discovered by the functional force, the objects will continue to put goods on vehicles to wait for trucks and passenger car transporting in deep inland for consumption.

Recently, Quang Tri Customs Department opened the peak of anti-smuggling of seasonal items, which focus on fighting, preventing the diameter and beer types. Leaders of Quang Tri Customs Department requested core units, including: Customs Control Team, Drug Control Team, Lao Bao Trade Zone Customs Department within the area assigned to enhance the public works. Collecting and processing information; to organize patrols and control at the trails, openings of two sides of B gateways and the border areas of Sounon river to detect, arrest and strictly handle violations. Lao Bao Trade Department's Customs Sub-Department focuses on "loading trucks", trucks, passenger cars and cars through gate B. The leaders of the units attach importance to and intensify management and education for Officials and civil servants not to participate, assist, cover and ignore smugglers. Leaders of Quang Tri Customs Department are determined and strictly punished violators.

Deploying the peak, Customs clearance teams, Customs Control Teams (Quang Tri Customs Department) are regularly deployed to dispatch officers at hot spots for smuggling. As the Customs Control Team assigns to the control teams, the reconnaissance team executes the gate area of Gate B, Lao Bao Trade Economic Zone, and the Sounon River.

According to the preliminary statistics from 15/5 to date, the Customs Inspection Team deployed forces, detected and arrested 10 cases, as results, seizing 6.9 tons of white diameter produced by Thailand, the estimated value About 103.5 million. Remarkably, customs authorities have discovered the incident up to tons of white diameter.

Typically, on May 18, while carrying out anti-smuggling duties within the area of customs operation, the Customs Inspection Team seized 2 tons of illegally imported sugar (unidentified owner) Cost about 37 million. On May 22, the Customs Inspection Team continued to detect the arrest of 1.4 tons of smuggled sugar, unidentified owners, worth about 30 million.

After consulting the market price, Customs officials determined that smuggled Thai sugar valued at VND15, 000 / kg was lower than VND 6,000 per kg compared to finished products from VND21, 000 to VND21, 400 per kg. Due to the large price difference, the functional forces continue to forecast difficulties when the situation of sugar smuggling is complicated.
