Preliminary assessment of Vietnam international merchandise trade performance in the second half of November, 2016

Accordingly, the total value of export and import turnover of Vietnam in the second half of November was US dollars 16.75 billion, up by 5.9% as compared to the first half of November-2016 (equivalent to USD 928 million).

Vietnam‘s trade-in-goods in 11 months of 2016 totaled US dollars 316.9 billion in value terms which expanded by 5.8% as compared to the performance of same period last year. In which, the total merchandise exports valued US dollars 159.94 billion, moved up by 7.8% and the total merchandise imports valued US dollars 156.96 billion, went up by 3.7%. Therefore, Vietnam was in trade surplus of over USD 2.98 billion in that period.

In the view of Foreign Direct Invested (FDI) traders, the value of exportation and importation in the second half of November reached USD 6.09 billion and USD 4.64 billion respectively. From January to November 30th of 2016, the total export value of FDI traders went up 10.8% to US dollar 112.45 billion, which accounted for 70.3% of Vietnam’s total exports. In the meanwhile, import value was posted at USD 92.75 billion, up by 3.52% and accounted for 59.1%

Export:

As compared to the first half of November-2016, second half of the month increase in the total export value (11.6% - USD 886 million equally) is reflected by upturn in crude oil (up by 100.5% - USD 81 million equally); foot-wear (up by 14.6% - USD 83 million equally); textile and garment (up by 13.9% - USD 123 million equally); telephone, mobile phone and part thereof (up by 15.1% USD 230 million equally)…

It was also showed by Vietnam Customs Statistics that export value of some commodities shrunk in the second half of November, which included: still image, video cameras and part thereof (down by 2.7% - USD 4 million equally); clinke and cement (down by 17.3% - USD 4 million equally); pepper (down by 16.1% - USD 6 million equally); rice (down by 18.9% - USD 15 million equally); computer, electrical products, spare-parts and component thereof (down by 5.8% - USD 57 million equally)…

Import:

The first half to second half of November slightly increase in the total of import value (0.5%) reflected upturn in: coal (up by 30.3% - USD 12 million equally); fertilizer (up by 50.7% - USD 19 million equally); animal fodders and animal fodder materials (up by 41.5% - USD 53 million equally); petroleum products (up by USD 30.8% - USD 66 million equally); means of transportation (up by 4.5 times - USD 159 million equally)…

Shrunk occurred in importation of some commodities such as: plastics (down by 10.1% - USD 34 million equally); corn (down by 43% - USD 39 million); iron and steel (down by 13.6% - USD 52 million equally); computer, electrical products, spare-parts and component thereof (down by 4.9% - USD 64 million equally)…
