Preliminary assessment of Vietnam international merchandise trade performance in the second half of June, 2019

The Vietnam Customs Statistics announced that in the second half of June, 2019 the total Vietnam’s exports of US dollars 11.23 billion and imports of nearly US dollars 9.73 billion resulted in a trade surplus of US dollars 1.5 billion. Accordingly, the total value of export and import turnover of Vietnam in the second half of June was US dollars 20.96 billion, up by 5.5% as compared to the first half of June-2019.

Furthermore, in the first 6 months of 2019, Vietnam was in a trade surplus of USD 1.59 billion.

Vietnam‘s trade-in-goods in the first 6 months of 2019 totaled US dollars 243.48 billion in value terms, climbed up by 8% as compared to the performance of the same period of last year.

In the view of Foreign Direct Invested (FDI) traders, the total value of exportation and importation in the first 6 months of 2019 reached USD 153.87 billion, up by 6% in comparison to the same period of 2018.

Export:

As compared to the first half of June-2019, second half of the month increase in the total export value (10.4% - USD 1.05 billion equally) is reflected by an upturn in telephones, mobile phones (up by 20.6% - USD 353 million equally); computer, electrical products (up by 8.1% - USD 116 million equally); textiles and garments (up by 5.6% - USD 79 million equally); machine, tools and equipments (up by 6.6% - USD 45 million equally)…

Totally, in the first 6 months of 2019 total export value from Vietnam was USD 122.53 billion, climbed up 7.2% as compared to the same period of 2018 (equivalent to USD 8.21 billion in absolute value terms).

Import:

The first half to the second half of June slight widen in the total of import value (0.4%) reflected an upturn in telephones, mobile phones (up by 27.2% - USD 115 million); animals and animal fodders (up by 35.1% - USD 45 millions); petroleum products (up by 26.5% - USD 36 million equally)…Shrunk occurred in some commodities such as: fabrics (down by 6% - USD 34 millions equally…

From January to second half of June-2019, total import value into Vietnam was USD 120.94 billion, went up by 8.9% as compared to the same period of 2018 (equivalent to USD 9.88 billion in absolute value terms).

According to trade statistics of Vietnam Customs, in February of 2024, a 26.7% downwards in total external merchandise turnover of Vietnam was recorded as compared to the result of January 2024. According to trade statistics of Vietnam Customs, in the first month of 2024, a 7.5% upwards in total external merchandise turnover of Vietnam was recorded as compared to the result of December 2023. Exports went up 9.7 %, to USD 34.53 billion and imports increased 5.1%, to USD 30.90 billion in terms of month-on-month basis.
