Long An: Seized nearly 9 tons of contraband sugar

After receiving information from local people, Customs Control Unit arranged members and cooperated with team 2 of Long An Market Management Branch in order to track the shipment. After some time, in the afternoon of 22th August, the functional force detected 2 suspicious trucks running from Vinh Hung border towards KienTuong town. So they asked drivers to stop for physical inspection.
On inspection, the functional team discovered both trucks were carrying a large amount of sugar produced by Thailand without invoice documents evidencing orgin.
According to the initial report, there was 8 tons of sugar transported on two trucks included sugar made in Thailand. The sugar was transported across the border from Cambodia viaVinh Hung border by channel 79, Tan Hung districts towards Highway 62. Then to Ho Chi Minh City for consumption.
The Control forces have taken custody procedures and transferred the shipment to the market management office for processing. As a result, the total number of sugar bags was 178 bags with 50kg per bag, equivalent of 8.9 tons. The force also established temporary seizure records to process in accordance with the law.
