HCM City: More than 2,200 containers of scrap stuck at seaport

Among those containers, the number of scrap containers which have not completed customs procedures over 90 days is 2,255 containers. Most of the backlogs are in Cat Lai port with 2,181 containers; 36 containers at VICT and 38 containers at Phuoc Long ports - Thu Duc.

Besides that, there are 965 imported scrap containers which have not completed procedures stored at the port for 30-90 days. Specifically, at the Cat Lai port managed by Saigon port area 1 Customs Branch are 965 containers; VICT Port and Ben Nghe Port which are managed by Saigon port area 3 Customs Branch are 20 containers.

In order to handle those scrap containers being stored over 90 days at the above ports, the leaders of the HCM City Customs Department have instructed customs branches where they have scrap backlogs, to classify by category and quantity, volume, composition, nature of goods and discarded materials. Then, reporting to the Council for Handling of Backlogs for the purpose of establishing the State property rights over the classified cargo containers in accordance with regulations on handling of backlogs at seaports and border gates under the Circular No. 203/2014 / TT-BTC of the Ministry of Finance.

It is known that dealing with the situation of imported scrap arriving at the ports is increasing. In order to control and prevent scrap which do not meet the requirement of quality standards as prescribed by the import regulations, or to take advantage of the import of scrap for import banned or illegally imported goods into Vietnam, leaders of the HCM City Customs Department has directed the customs branches at the border gate to strengthen inspection, supervision, review and carry out procedures in accordance with regulations for imported scrap. To comply with regulations on handling of backlogs under Circular No. 203/2014 / TT-BTC of the Ministry of Finance and set up a task force to monitor scrap containers and handling.
