Thousands of bottles of imported alcohol held in custody
The import shipments belonged to Tan Khoa JSC (BinhChanh – HCMC), according to the import Customs declaration. In detail, the quantity of cargo imported was about 560 boxes, which contained 6,720 bottles of Bombay Dry Gin, originated in United Kingdom, and had a net worth over 203 million vnd.
After checking procedures on the import consignments, Saigon port’s Customs Branch in area 1 detected the quantity of imported goods was actually more than double compared to that in the Customs declaration; as the accurate number was around 1,120 boxes (13,440 bottles), which caused the tax gap to increase to more than 384 million vnd.
To explain the cause of the excess, Tan Khoa JSC stated that their foreign partners should be the one to be blamed as they must have made some errors in the packaging of goods, leading to errors in the input information on the Customs vouchers and declarations form.
Due to the significant difference between the declared and actual number of bottles imported, as well as the huge tax gap, together with some suspicious criminal signs, HCM City Customs Department co-operated with the HCMC People's People’s Committee to effectively deal with the violations in this matter.
