On April 15when speaking with a reporter from the Customs Newspaper, Deputy Director General of Sai Gon New Port Corporation Nguyen Nang Toan said after many solutions to reduce storage charges and support for businesses, thousands of backlogged containers, especially imported scrap at Cat Lai port, have been cleared.

Toan said after Sai Gon New Port Corporation reduced 80% of storage charges for containers of imported scrap stored at Cat Lai port before December 31, 2018 and taken out of the port by customers from the end of March to the end of April 30, 2019, many enterprises have completed procedures to receive goods.

According to Sai Gon New Port Corporation, since releasing the notice of reduction of storage charges for backlogged goods (March 28, 2019) until now, about 3,000 containers of goods in stock have had procedures completed for receiving goods.

Recently, the number of imported containers of scrap in stock in the terminal system of Saigon Newport Corporation in general and Cat Lai port in particular has been significant, causing traffic congestion and seriously affecting the business of the ports. As of March 20, 2019, the number of containers of scrap at Cat Lai port was 3,800 teus and at other ports was 6,000 teus.

According to the leader of Saigon New Port Corporation, with the participation of state authorities, there are many documents guiding, removing problems and creating conditions for customers to receive goods. To help customers bring goods from ports to bring raw materials into production and return space for the port, Tan Cang Sai Gon Corporation will reduce 80% of storage charges for containers of scrap located at Cat Lai port before December 31, 2018 and taken out of the port by the customer from now until the end of April 30, 2019.

Sai Gon New Port Corporation is very worried about the congestion that will occur at Cat Lai in the five days over the 30 April holidays. To prevent this situation, many solutions to handle backlogged goods at this port have been introduced.

Saigon Newport Corporation also offers many policies to encourage enterprises to receive goods early. To support shipping lines, shipping agents and enterprises during the holidays of the Hung King's death anniversary and the Southern Liberation Day this year, this Corporation still works normally and exempts the storage charges for all import and export goods.

Specifically, in addition to exemption period of storage charges specified in the contract, Sai Gon New Port Corporation will exempt the storage charges for all goods and containers at the port. Subjects of exemption of storage charges are containers with imported goods from ships; the ports offering the exemption from storage charges are Newport-Cat Lai and Newport - Hiep Phuoc. The application period is eight days: three days for Hung Vuong's death anniversary (from 13th to 15th April 2019) and five days for Southern Liberation Day and the International Labour April 30 and May 1st (from April 27th until the end of May 1st, 2019).

To avoid goods congestion at port, Saigon Newport Corporation encourages enterprises to receive goods during the holidays. Sai Gon New Port Corporation still accepts ships, loads and unloads goods., etc. The divisions at the ports are still working as normal.
