The case was discovered by Saigon port area 1 Customs Branch – HCM City Customs Department detected and prosecuted a criminal case at the end of 2019.
According to the Investigation Police Agency - Ho Chi Minh City Police, after receiving the case dossier, the unit is investigating the smuggling case through a legal entity, namelyLam An Import Export Trading Co., Ltd. (District 1, HCM City).
Previously, Lam An Import Export Trading Co., Ltd was discovered declaring incorrectly the name of goods, HS code, tax rate of goods, so it resulted in a lack of payable tax amount for Saigon port area 1 Customs Branch.
When carrying out procedures for exporting four cargo containers to South Korea, on the customs declaration, Lam An Import Export Trading Co., Ltd declared goods were galvanised round steel pipes with export tax of 0 percent.
Saigon port area 1 Customs Branch detected signs of fraud from this exported shipment, so they proposed stopping clearance and changing to physical inspection flow.
As a result, Customs authorities discovered all goods in four containers were aluminum scrap with export tax rate of 22 percent. The value of the violated shipment was VND 2.8 billion, the amount of tax payable was nearly VND 617 million.
According to verification results, the legal representative of Lam An Import Export Trading Co., Ltd which was Do Thi Thuy Phuong (was born in 1981, living in An Phu Ward, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City), left her place of residence. The Investigation Police Agency - Ho Chi Minh City Police asked Phuong to contact investigator Vo Vu Hoang, Team 9, Economic Police Division (PC03) - Ho Chi Minh City Police at the address: 674 Ba Thang Hai Street, Ward 14, District 2. 10, phone: 0984.002.586 to clarify information related to the case.
