Sophiciated methods

Through the fight against drugs, Quang Tri Customs Enforcement force recognized that the drug-related crimes have taken place sophicicatedly.

According to information from the competent authorities and drug seizures by Lao and Vietnameses forcement authrities, drugs are procedured in Laos in huge quantity.

Additionally, the smugglers have transported machinery and raw materials into Laos to directly produce drugs.

Drugs in Laos are cheap and diverse, when the drugs are transported into Vietnam, the price will be higher, so the subjects have used sophiciated transport methods for trafficking drugs.

Drug rings and criminals tend to change the method of transportation and trading by using foreign people to illegally transport drugs cross the border into the inland.

Drug criminals have used the trick of remodeling the ceiling, tunnel, and partitions on cars with Lao license plates to transport drugs and outsmart the detection by the competent force.

Criminals have colluded a ring to illegally trade large quantities of drugs with sophisticated tricks.

The criminals have operated independentlyn during the transportation process, and used social networks to communicate, and frequently changed methods to conceal and transport drugs.

For example, at the Lao Bao international border gate, through import-export and immigration activities, smugglers have disguised and hiden drugs in their bodies, vehicles, and goods, especially used the method of transporting consigned goods, causing difficulties in inspection, control, and arrest.

Responsding to the situation, the leaders of Quang Tri Customs Department have regularly directed units to strengthen customs control measures, conduct investigations, verifications, and effectively combat drug-related crimes.

The department has coordinated with the Police and Border Guard Forces to collect information to methods and tricks of smugglers to build projects to effectively combat the crimes.

In 2024, Quang Tri Customs Department arrested 18 drug cases, arrested 34 subjects; seized 178,994 synthetic drug pills and 100,656 kg of drugs.

Effectively control the situation

The drug-related crimes is forcast to take place complicatedly in 2025, Quang Tri Customs Department sets out many key tasks in the fight against smuggling and handling of violations.

The department continues to strengthen the inspection, control, and supervision of import and export goods, transit goods, means of transport, and luggage of passengers on exit and entry; effectively implements the collection and processing of information for risk management.

The department strictly controls luggage of inbound passengers; goods traded by border residents; focuses on inspection and control of heavy and oversized cargo vehicles, tourist cars, private cars, etc.

The department grasps the situation, new tricks of smuggling, trade fraud, illegal transportation of cargo and drugs across the border and other violations of customs laws in the area to provide effective prevention and combat plans to prevent the establishment of smuggling hotspots.

The department uses equipment and facilities to ensure that they meet the requirements of crime prevention and control in the new situation.

The department effectively uses specialized equipment and means in inspection and supervision, such as container and luggage scanners, drug testing machines; handheld drug testing machines, and sniffing dogs, ....
