Small-scale smuggling
According to An Giang Customs Department, during the Lunar New Year holiday, the department has arranged leaders, civil servants and employees to work and effectively handled all arising situations and smoothly processed customs procedures, and prevented congestion and inconvenience to people and businesses.
From January 25 to February 1, 2025, customs branches at the border processed 175 declarations, with the import-export turnover at US$9.523 million, and the value of goods of border residents at VND 21.309 billion.
At the same time, the border gate customs branches have strengthened the inspection and supervision for imports and exports, transit goods, exit-entry and transit vehicles and luggage.
The leaders of An Giang Customs Department directed the units to actively implement Plans to combat smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods before, during and after the Lunar New Year 2025.
The department has required units to regularly exchange information, patrol, strictly control, strengthen the fight against smuggling and illegal transportation of goods across the border, especially for key items, and prevent smuggling in the customs control area during Tet holiday.
According to An Giang Customs Department, smuggling and illegal transportation of goods across the border during Tet did not take place complicatedly and only occurred in small scale.
From January 25 to February 1, Vinh Xuong International Border Guard Station (An Giang Provincial Border Guard) coordinated with Vinh Xuong Border Gate Customs Branch (An Giang Customs Department) to arrest a case of illegal transportation of firecrackers, weighing about 10.8 kg.
Tinh Bien Border Gate Customs Branch collaborated with the Steering Committee 389 of Tinh Bien district to arrest a case of smuggling of goods including mosquito coils, shampoo, toothpaste, etc.
Strictly controls special goods
In addition to imports and exports of border residents, An Giang Customs Department has processed many regimes and types of special goods. To effectively control, the Department's leaders have instructed policies for transit goods such as fertilizers and iron ore to the branches, and the decision of the Ministry of Industry and Trade on exemption from anti-dumping measures and anti-evasion of trade defense measures; improved management for imported natural sand; inspected import and export vehicles; and strengthened inspection and supervision of types and items subject to customs control.
In 2024, the customs branches processed 40,129 declarations, with import-export turnover at US$1,877 million; processed 16,037 declarations of border residents' goods, worth VND2,307.341 billion.
The total turnover of goods exported across An Giang border gates reached US$1,254 million, down 12%; of transit goods at 564,223 thousand tons, up 41% over the same period in 2023.
The border customs branches have inspected the taxable value of 23,413 declarations, including the items: rice, natural sand, garment materials, garment equipment, fresh fruit, used agricultural machinery, etc.
Based on the actual situation, An Giang Customs Department has directed the border customs branches, Customs Enforcement Team, and Drug Enforcement Team to strengthen control of hot items in the area such as: currency, gold, and drugs.
The department has required units to strengthen patrols and controls in the management areas, and accomplish assigned targets in 2024.
From March 2024 to current date, the Customs Departments of Tinh Bien, Khanh Binh and Vinh Xuong border gates have collected information on 2-wheeled motorbikes of border residents of Vietnam - Cambodia Border for management (by barcode) when the residents operate vehicles exiting and entering the border.
An Giang Customs Department has arrested one smuggling case of 1.2 kg of gold jewelry, with a total value of VND1,417.6 million; three cases of illegal transportation of currency, with a total value of about VND686.958 million; coordinated with An Giang Provincial Police and Long Binh Border Guard Station to seize US$ 530,130.
An Giang Customs Department has also detected and handled many cases, and imposed taxes by specialized inspection and post-clearance audit.
