Removing obstacles for Lao Cai Customs Department in collecting taxes in days off

Currently, checkpoints at border gates under the Department’s management have carried out Customs procedures for imported and exported goods on all days of the week (including Saturdays, Sunday and holidays and Tet holidays).

As reflected by Lao Cai Customs Department, on days off, the transmission of information and data on tax collection and payment of businesses from commercial banks is often delayed, affecting the Customs clearance at border gates. Many businesses have to submit tax payment documents to Customs for goods clearance.

In order to remove the obstacles for businesses, Lao Cai Customs Department proposed the State Treasury of Lao Cai province and branches of commercial banks in the province to arrange officers working on weekends, holidays and Tet holidays to reduce the clearance time for businesses.

However, this is only a temporary solution. Not only Lao Cai Customs Department have faced the above problems but also many Customs Departments have encountered difficulties in carrying Customs procedures out of working hours or on weekends and holidays.

Understanding these difficulties, the General Department of Vietnam Customs has opened a new form of tax payment for import-export businesses through the scheme of “E-tax payment through banks and 24/7 Customs clearance” which is a key scheme of Vietnam Customs in 2017 to support businesses to pay directly at the Customs Portal (24/7).

This new form of taxpayers will continue to simplify tax payment procedures and save time and cost for businesses and open more payment channels for taxpayers. Along with that, businesses will actively pay tax at any time and anywhere with internet access and by any means. The Tax payment will not depend on the working time and place of work of the collection agencies, such as Banks, State treasuries, and Customs.

The 24/7 e-tax payment will be officially deployed from November 2017 with 5 five banks which have been selected to pilot by the General Department of Viet Nam Customs including Vietcombank, Vietinbank; BIDV, MB, and Techcombank
