According to information from the La Lay Border Gate Customs Branch, at approximately 11:00 AM on January 10, 2025, at the La Lay International Border Gate's Joint Control Area, during an X-ray inspection of luggage, customs officials discovered a suspicious package (a yellow cardboard box with the words "BeerLao Premium Lager Beer" and black tape on both ends). This package was suspected of concealing undeclared goods.
Upon further inspection in collaboration with the surveillance force of the La Lay International Border Gate Border Post, Cao Ba Huy, born in 2000 (residing in Dien Thanh, Dien Chau, Nghe An), was caught red-handed transporting illegal firearms. Evidence seized included two handguns and 92 rounds of ammunition hidden inside a crate of Lao beer.
During interrogation, Huy confessed to transporting the firearms at the request of an unidentified Vietnamese man, following instructions from a Lao man he had met while working in Laos. Huy was offered VND 12 million for this task.
