Preliminary assessment of Vietnam international merchandise trade performance in the second half of September, 2020

The Vietnam Customs Statistics announced that in the second half of September, 2020 the total Vietnam’s exports of US dollars 14.49 billion and imports of nearly US dollars 12.44 billion resulted in a trade surplus of US dollars 2.05 billion. Accordingly, the total value of export and import turnover of Vietnam in the second half of September was over US dollars 26.93 billion, up by 10.8% as compared to the first half of September-2020.

Furthermore, in the first 9 months of 2020, Vietnam was in trade surplus of USD 16.52 billion.

Vietnam‘s trade-in-goods in the first 9 months of 2020 totaled US dollars 388.62 billion in value terms, inceased slightly 1.7% as compared to the same period of last year.

In the view of Foreign Direct Invested (FDI) traders, the total value of exportation and importation in the first 9 months of 2020 reached USD 233.68 billion, down by 3.5% in comparison to the same period of 2019.

Export:

As compared to the first half of September-2020, second half of the month increase in the total export value (14.7% - USD 1.85 billion equally) is reflected by upturn in telephones, mobile phones and part thereof (up by 23.9% - USD 557 million equally); computer, electrical products (up by 4.2% - USD 92 million equally); machine, tools and equipments (up by 29% - USD 353million equally); …

Totally, in the first 9 months of 2020 total export value from Vietnam was USD 202.57 billion, slightly up by 4.1% as compared to the same period of 2019.

The first half to second half of September widen in the total of import value (6.6%) reflected upturn in computer, electrical products (up by 3.8% - USD 117 million equally); machine, equipment, tools and instrustment (up by 5.8% - USD 96.2 million equally);…

From January to second half of September-2020, total import value into Vietnam was USD 186.05 billion, went down by 0.7% as compared to the same period of 2019.

According to trade statistics of Vietnam Customs, in August of 2024, a 2.0% upwards in total external merchandise turnover of Vietnam was recorded as compared to the result of July 2024.
