Preliminary assessment of Vietnam international merchandise trade performance in the second half of January, 2018

Vietnam‘s trade-in-goods in January-2018 totaled US dollars 40.26 billion in value terms, up by 46.2% as compared to the performance of the same period of 2017. In which, the total merchandise exports valued US dollars 20.22 billion, up by 41% and the total merchandise imports valued to US dollars 20.04 billion up by 51.9%.

In the view of Foreign Direct Invested (FDI) traders, the total value of exportation and importation in the first month of 2018 reached USD 25.82 billion, up by 46.3% (USD 8.17 billion equally) in comparison to January 2017.

Export:

As compared to the first half of January-2018, second half of the month increase in the total export value (18.6% - USD 1.72 billion equally) is reflected by upturn in textile and garments (up by 25% - USD 278 million equally); computer, electrical products, spare-parts and components thereof (up by 21% - USD 225 million equally); machine, equipment tools and instruments (up by 24.6% - USD 134 million equally)…

The decrease occurred in exportation of the following commodities: telephone, mobile phone and part thereof (down by 13.6% - US dollars 287 million equally); rice (down by 7.8% - USD 10 million equally)…

Import:

A decrease occurred in importation of some commodities such as: telephone, mobile phone and part thereof (down by 13.5% - US dollars 114.5 million equally); animal fodders and animal fodder materials (down by 18% - USD 33 million equally); computer, electrical products, spare-parts and components thereof (down by 1.7% - USD 33 million equally) …The first half to second half of January increase in the total of import value (10.5% - USD 1 billion equally) reflected upturn in petroleum products (up by 137.5% - USD 339 million equally); machine, equipment tools and instruments (up by 11.3% - USD 156 million equally); plastics (up by 16.3% - USD 57 million); fabrics (up by 10.6% - USD 53 million equally)…
