Nearly 12 tons of scrap seized at night

VCN – Taking advantage of darkness, smugglers used a wooden boat to transport nearly 12 tons of scrap from Cambodia to Vietnam cross the border area of Khanh Binh (An Giang). The shipment was seized by the Customs force and Border Denfense force.

According to the leader of Khanh Binh Customs Branch - An Giang Customs Department, recently, during patrol of the border at Hau River area of ​​Group 2, An Khanh Hamlet, Khanh An Commune, An Phu District, the Customs working group discovered a person in a wooden boat transporting from Cambodia to Vietnam with suspicious signs in the early morning.

The Customs working group coordinated with the border defense force of Long Binh border gate to stop the boat for inspection. Through checking the wooden boat, the working group found 16 pieces of scrap paper packed into blocks, with a total weight of nearly 12 tons, worth about VND60 million on the boat.

Through the struggle, the driver of the vehicle claimed his name was Tran Thanh Liem (born in 1982, residing in Phuoc Hung commune, An Phu district, An Giang province). He did not present papers proving the origin of the above goods.

The Khanh Binh Customs Branch handed over the dossiers and exhibits to the Long Binh Border Guard Station for temporary seizure and handling in accordance with regulations.
