Lang Son Province: Smuggled poultry breaks out

VCN- According to statistics of the Lang Son Department of Customs, from December 2015 to date, the Department has handled 17 cases of illegally smuggled poultry with an estimated value of 177.5 million vnd. From August 15, 2016 to date, the Department has seized 3 cases of illegal live poultry transport with an estimated value of 58.5 million vnd.

A representative of the Lang Son Department of Customs said that all violated cases in recent times were handled by the Customs Branch of Chi Ma Border Gate. However, when Customs forces detected the violations, many perpetrators left goods to escape, so it was difficult for Customs officers to determine the real owner of the smuggled goods. Therefore, Customs officers transferred these cases to Animal Inspection Agency to handle under current regulations.

The Lang Son Department of Customs stated that the illegal transport of poultry and poultry products in the border areas was very complicated, particularly from milestone 1228 to milestone 1239 in Na Quan, Na Phat, Yen Khoai, Loc Binh district, Lang Son province.

The owners of smuggled goods hired local citizens to transport poultry from China into Vietnam along the border, gathered in several houses and then used cars and small trucks to transport to the domestic market. In the process of shipping, the owners of smuggled goods also hired a large number of people to use motorcycles and cars to track and hinder the functional forces.

According to a representative of the Lang Son Department of Customs, in order to monitor the situation of illegal transport of poultry and poultry products, the Department has directed units under the Department to strengthen the patrols and Customs operations effectively to prevent perpetrators from transporting smuggled poultry and poultry products; in close coordination with relevant functional forces, to strictly handle violations.
