Representatives of Quang Tri Border Guard and Police awarded the Letter of Commendation of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang.

In November 1-2, the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee 389 chaired and coordinated with the Vietnam Sugar Association to establish a working group to conduct a survey and grasp the situation of smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in target areas and work with Steering Committee 389 of Quang Tri province.

Detecting and handling 1,609 smuggling cases

The report of the National Steering Committee 389 shows that in the first 10 months of 2023, the smuggling, illegal transportation of goods across borders and foreign origin have complicated development and tended to increase in the third quarter of 2023.

Smugglers often take advantage of Lao Bao International Border Gate, Se Pon river, National Highway 9 in Lao Bao Town, Huong Hoa District across Krong Klang town, Dakrong district, Dong Ha city.

Items that are smuggled and illegally transported include drugs, firecrackers, cigarettes, white sugar, alcohol, beer, cosmetics...

In fact, the law enforcement forces have discovered, arrested, and handled many cases of smuggling, illegal transportation of goods across borders.

Smugglers have abused the complex border terrain, and hired border residents who are ethnic minorities and live near the river without jobs to smuggle and transport goods across border gate, causing difficulties for enforcement forces in performing tasks.

Specifically, in the first 10 months of 2023, the local enforcement forces detected and handled 1,609 cases of smuggling, trade fraud and fake goods with total value of infringing goods of VND18.79 billion; and arrested 1,320 offenders.

The forces prosecuted criminally handled 218 cases/353 subjects, and collected VND43.67 billion.

Identify emerging and complex issues

At the meeting, Deputy Chief of Office, Standing Office of the National Steering Committee 389 Trinh Manh Cuong requested the Steering Committee 389 of Quang Tri province to direct departments, agencies, members, units and localities to effectively follow directions of the Government, the Prime Minister, and the Head of the National Steering Committee 389 on anti-smuggling and trade fraud and counterfeit goods.

At the same time, proactively forecast the situation in the last months of 2023, identify emerging and complex issues, new operating tricks; Develop programs, plans, and solutions in line with the situation and task requirements to improve the effectiveness of anti-smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in the area in the near future, especially on holiday, Lunar New Year 2024.

Review difficulties and obstacles, propose timely amendments, supplements and replacements to gradually improve institutions and the effectiveness of anti-smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods; exchange information and strengthen coordination in inspection, detection, prevention, and handling of acts of buying, selling, and transporting contraband goods, smuggled goods, counterfeit goods, intellectual property rights violations, and fraud trade, tax evasion; strictly handle officials violating in performing the task.

The Standing Office of the National Steering Committee 389 announced and awarded a Letter of Commendation from Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang to Quang Tri Border Guard Command and Police; Certificate of Merit from the Head of the National Steering Committee 389 for individuals and collectives of the Quang Tri Border Guard Command and Police for contribution in combating the ring of trafficking and illegal transportation of 20 kg of drugs across the border of Quang Tri and Kon Tum provinces.

The Vietnam Sugar Association announced the decision and awarded to the Quang Tri Police and Dakrong District Police for contribution in seizing 136.5 tons of smuggled sugar.

After one year of implementing Plan No. 92/KH-BCD389 dated September 13, 2022 of the National Steering Committee 389 on anti-smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods on borders, sea areas and domestic area, the law enforcement forces of Quang Tri province busted 1,795 cases; and remitted VND49.24 billion to the State budget.
