Hanoi Customs takes lead in drugs prevention

VCN - “Hanoi Customs Department has create their brand in the fight against drugs”, that was an affirmation of Deputy Director General of Vietnam Customs Hoang Viet Cuong at the conference on preliminarily review the work in the first half of 2024, task deployment in the last six month of 2024 held by Hanoi Customs on July 5th.

Report of Hanoi Customs Department for the First 6 Months of 2024, Director Hoang Quoc Quang said that, 43 cases of illegal drug trafficking were detected and seized, with a total of 539 kg of various types of drugs confiscated;19 suspects were arrested in connection with these cases. The cases are currently under investigation and will be handled by the police in accordance with the law.

The number of drug trafficking cases detected reflects the rapid, bold, and increasingly sophisticated nature and methods of drug traffickers.

Besides that, regarding the anti-smuggling, 622 violations of customs laws were detected and handled, with a total fine of nearly VND44 billion paid to the state budget; 8 smuggling cases were seized, involving electronic cigarettes, foreign currency, gold bars, gun parts, etc. Hanoi Customs Department has prosecuted 4 cases and referred 2 cases to the police for prosecution.

In terms of customs supervision and control, over 845,000 customs declarations were processed, import-export turnover reached VND 36.61 trillion.

Revenue to the state budget reached VND 14,943 billion by the end of June 2024, equivalent to 44.5% of the plan and 105.34% of the same period in 2023. In particular, Hanoi area collected VND 11,898 billion.

Regarding post-clearance audit, in the first 6 months of 2024, Hanoi Customs Department conducted 80 post-clearance audit with a detection rate of 86.25%, collecting nearly VND 120 billion to the state budget, equivalent to 118.87% compared to the same period in 2023.

In addition, other key tasks including modernization of customs; risk management; inspection and examination also achieved outstanding results.

At the conference, Deputy Director General of Vietnam Customs Hoang Viet Cuong recognized and commended the achievements of Hanoi Customs Department, basically completing well the assigned tasks in the first 6 months, especially the fight against drug trafficking and post-clearance audit.

For the task of collecting revenue to the state budget, the General Department of Vietnam Customs noted that Hanoi Customs Department is one of the 10 customs units with the largest collection in the entire industry. Therefore, Hanoi Customs Department needs to focus on the group of solutions proposed by the General Department of Vietnam Customs, strive to complete and exceed the assigned targets. In particular, the unit needs to focus on the group of solutions to combat revenue loss through quantity, type, value, tax rate, origin, etc. Along with that, it is necessary to urge the collection of outstanding debts and complete the targets for 2024.

Regarding the reform and modernization of customs to facilitate trade, the General Department of Vietnam Customs instructed Hanoi Customs Department to focus on solutions to facilitate import-export activities for businesses; review the planning of inspection locations and customs procedures, thereby advising the city and provinces in the operating area to ensure planning and creating favorable conditions for the location of carrying out customs procedures. In addition, Hanoi Customs Department needs to continue to maintain the Customs - Business Dialogue activities so that any difficulties can be resolved promptly.

Regarding the fight against drug trafficking, the Deputy Director General requested the unit to continue to promote its achievements and experience, raise its vigilance, promptly detect violations, especially, the fight against smuggling to be implemented more actively to timely prevent smuggling and trade fraud.
