In the first quarter, Hai Phong Customs Department handled three cases of ivory smuggling.

Specifically, on February 2, at Lach Huyen, Hai Phong Customs Department chaired and coordinated with the Command of Coast Guard Region 1, Hai Phong Border Guard, and Hai Phong Police to inspect suspicious containers and discovered 490 kg of ivory.

On February 6, also at Lach Huyen port, Hai Phong Customs Department and Anti-Smuggling Investigation Department (General Department of Customs), Hai Phong Police and other competent authorities discovered and seized 125 kg of ivory illegally imported from Africa.

On March 20, at Nam Hai Dinh Vu port (Hai Phong), Hai Phong Customs Department chaired and coordinated with Hai Phong Police to examine a 20-foot container containing more than 7.6 tons of ivory and ivory products smuggled from Africa. This is the largest ivory smuggling case seized at Hai Phong port.

Thus, the total volume of ivory and ivory products seized by Hai Phong Customs in the first quarter of 2023 amounted to more than 8.2 tons.
