Hai Phong Customs presided over the seizure of nearly 500 kg of ivory
A large amount of ivory was seized by Hai Phong Customs in coordination with competent forces. |
On February 2, a representative of the Hai Phong Customs Department said that the import declaration of this shipment was registered on January 28, 2023, at Dinh Vu port Customs Branch (Hai Phong Customs Department). The shipment was imported by HMD Technology Joint Stock Company (address: Hoa Binh commune, Thuong Tin district, Hanoi).
The shipment included one container on board XIN WEN ZHOU 147E, entering Lach Huyen port on January 22, 2023.
The enterprise declared that the goods included one item, "Cow HORNS", whose scientific name was bos taurus, which was not on the list of banned imports (according to CITES), used for handicraft production. Furthermore, the item has been preliminarily processed, cleaned and dried, brand new, 100%, and made in Nigeria (Africa).
However, by applying professional measures, the Customs force suspected this container contained ivory, which was banned from import.
On February 2, at Lach Huyen, Hai Phong Customs (including the Customs Enforcement Team and Dinh Vu Port Customs Branch) chaired and coordinated with the Command of Coast Guard Region 1, Hai Phong Border Defence force, Hai Phong Police to inspect the suspicious container and discovered nearly 500 kg of ivory.
This is one of the smuggling ivory cases in large quantities which is discovered and seized by the Customs force in the Hai Phong port area recently.
The case is being further investigated and clarified.
