Mr. Dinh Van Hoa, Deputy Director of Ha Tinh Customs Department said that in 2018, the smuggling, trade fraud and illegal transportation of goods in the Customs control area have taken place sophisticatedly and with potential risks. Especially, the drug-related crime in Ha Tinh is increasing with sophisticated and dangerous tricks. Notably, the trafficking and transportation of heroine, crystal meth, and synthetic drugs with huge quantities increased.
In Ha Tinh province, drugs gangs often take advantage of dangerous and complex routes on mountain forest trails to transport drugs across border gates. Facing this situation, Ha Tinh Customs Department as the Standing agency of the Steering Committee 389 of Ha Tinh Province, advised the provincial leaders to direct the implementation of many plans to strengthen the fight against smuggling, commercial fraud and etc... Recently, the competent forces have drastically repressed and arrested many smuggling cases with huge volumes, so the situation has decreased.
At Cau Treo international border gate at the end of the year, a Customs newspaper reporter realizes the bustling atmosphere from the shipments, crowds of Vietnamese people working in Laos traveling for early repatriation. Talking with us, the representative of Cau Treo International Border Gate Customs Branch said that currently, competent forces at border gates face many difficulties in performing their task of patrol and control at border gates. It was due to the high increase in the volume of imported and exported goods and the number of passengers on exit and entry; on the other hand, it was also due to the increasingly sophisticated and constantly changing tricks by the smuggling perpetrators. For example, the design of hydraulic vault in vehicles to hide smuggled goods to avoid the detection of competent forces, or the use of other goods to hide smuggled goods.
The representative of Cau Treo International Border Gate Customs Branch said that at the end of the year, smugglers will take advantage to implement large cases. Therefore, in order to strictly control, the Branch has arranged forces to be on duty 100% of the time and work on days off and holidays to ensure quick customs clearance and prevent smuggled goods from entering inland.
According to the Steering Committee 389 of Ha Tinh province, at the end of the year, due to the increase in peoples’ demand for consumer goods, organizations and individuals can take advantage of preferential policies for border residents to smuggle and illegal transportation of goods in the province, especially in Cau Treo International Border Gate. Therefore, the Provincial Steering Committee 389 requested the forces to strengthen coordination to prevent contraband goods, low quality goods, counterfeit goods from border to inland. Following this request, Ha Tinh Customs Department directed border-gate customs branches to implement during the peak period the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods before, during and after the Lunar New Year.
Mr. Dinh Van Hoa said, currently anti-smuggling forces have been strengthened in targeted areas to closely inspect and supervise import and export goods, and passengers and vehicles on exit and entry at border gates, and the two sides of the border gates, seaport area and other areas in the customs control area. In particular, the targeted commodity groups are the focus on detecting and strictly handling in this period such as: Drugs, explosives, firecrackers, wild animals, food, beer, wine, beverage and cigarettes and petroleum products ... In parallel with the prevention and handling of violations, Ha Tinh Customs Department also implemented synchronously solutions to prevent the revenue losses and promptly handle frauds to evade taxes.
