Three motorboats transporting smuggled pigs were seized by Dong Thap Customs

According to Dong Thap Customs Department, at 3:15am, on August 29, 2020, the Customs Enforcement Team worked with the Thuong Phuoc Customs Branch, the Hong Ngu District Police to patrol and control the river route of Tien River. Then the competent forces detected two irrigation vehicles illegally crossing the border from Cambodia into Vietnam at night.

The working group used motorboats to chase from the border of Thuong Phuoc border gate to Hamlet 1, Thuong Phuoc 1 commune, Hong Ngu district. Then two vehicles pulled ashore, the driver jumped ashore and escaped.

Through inspecting two vehicles, the Customs authority discovered 34 live pigs (weight about 3.3 tonnes) without proof of legality. The Customs Enforcement Team decided to temporarily seize all the pigs and means of transport mentioned above for handling.

On the same day, the Customs Enforcement force also worked with the Hong Ngu District Police to seize a motorboat transporting 27 live pigs (weighing about 2.6 tonnes), illegally crossing the border from Cambodia into Vietnam.

All 61 pigs were destroyed in accordance wit regulation.

All 61 pigs that were illegally imported have no clear origin, so Dong Thap Customs Department has handed over for the competent forces of Dong Thap province to conduct destruction in accordance with regulations.

It is known that in recent years, implementing the directives of the National Steering Committee 389, the Provincial People's Committee, the General Department of Vietnam Customs on prevention of smuggling, illegal transportation of pigs and pig products across border, Dong Thap Customs Department has strengthened the inspection, supervision, actively implemented control measures, in order to promptly prevent smuggling and illegal transport of pigs, products from pigs across the border.
