Deliberately transporting opium poppy seeds and firecrackers cross border

VCN – According to Ha Tinh Customs Department, Cau Treo Customs Branch has coordinated with Cau Treo Border Control Station to discover and arrest a person while he was transporting firecrackers and opium poppy seeds from Laos to Vietnam via border gate.

At 6:00 PM, on 18/1, in the inspection process for people with means of transport and cargo on entry at the entry channel of Cau Treo Border Gate, the working group detected a HUYNDAI car with license plate No. 9875 of Laos. This car was driven by Nguyen Van Thanh (was born in 1975, lives at Vuong Loc, Can Loc district, Ha Tinh province) transporting a suspicious looking cargo of vegetables.

In there, the working group conducted an inspection and discovered 8 boxes of firecrackers with 9 pieces/box, that were hidden among those vegetables, 4 packs of ball firecrackers with total weight of 20kg were hidden in the side of car’s body and 1 nylon pack of fresh opium poppy seeds with total weight of 5kg was hidden in the front of the car.

At the investigation agency, Nguyen Van Thanh claimed that he bought firecrackers and opium poppy seeds from Laos and transported to Vietnam for consumption.
