Customs strengthens anti-smuggling work of petrol, coal

Following the direction of Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh on strengthening the management of coal and oil imports (Official Letter 3211 dated October 19, 2021 of the Government Office); Official Dispatch 20 dated November 25, 2021 on strengthening inspection, control and prevention of petrol and coal smuggling activities on border lines and sea areas of the National Steering Committee 389; Official Dispatch 65 dated December 23, 2021 of the Steering Committee 389 of the Ministry of Finance, the General Department of Customs has requested the local customs departments and the Anti-smuggling and Investigation Department to focus on performing the following tasks:
Requesting units to comply with directions of the Deputy Prime Minister, the National Steering Committee 389 and the Steering Committee 389 of the Ministry of Finance in the above document;
Requiring Customs control units and professional units to strengthen and take measures, conduct basic investigations, develop plans to prevent, control and fight smuggling of petroleum and coal on the border lines and sea areas; exchange, coordinate and share information on petroleum and coal smuggling activities on the border lines and sea areas with anti-smuggling forces such as the Border Guard, Police, Coast Guard, Market Surveillance and local governments.
Determining collective and individual responsibility for smuggling, commercial fraud, and counterfeiting of petroleum and coal products in the areas under their management.
The leader of the General Department of Customs also asked the customs units to coordinate with the press and media agencies to encourage people not to join or abet the smuggling of petrol and coal on the border lines and sea areas.

The General Department of Customs assigned the Anti-Smuggling and Investigation Department to monitor, summarize and advise the General Department of Customs, the Steering Committee 389 of the Ministry of Finance to implement the instructions in Official Letter 65 mentioned and actively work with the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee 389 in praising and rewarding collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in the fight against petrol and coal smuggling.
