Customs, Border Guards in Lang Son strengthen coordination

Suffering many impacts from the Covid-19 pandemic
On August 21, 2024, the working group of the General Department of Customs and the Border Guard Command led by Deputy Director General of the General Department of Customs Luu Manh Tuong inspect and evaluate the results of the coordination work between Customs and Border Guards according to Coordination Regulation No. 3929/QC-BDBP-TCHQ dated September 4, 2019 between the Border Guard Command and the General Department of Customs, in Lang Son province.
Reporting to the working group, representatives of Lang Son Customs Department and Lang Son Border Guard said that the implementation of the coordination regulations during this period was greatly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
After the pandemic was controlled, since January 8, 2023, immigration activities for passengers have been restored at Huu Nghi and Chi Ma border gates with a flow of about 7,000 arrivals/day.
Goods clearance activities are carried out at seven border gates, pairs of markets, customs clearance paths, and specialized roads for transporting goods, with an average of 1,100 - 1,200 vehicles per day.
Regarding the implementation of coordination regulations, the two units have seriously and effectively implemented the signed contents between the Border Guard Command and the General Department of Customs and achieved remarkable results.
As a result, from 2019 to June 30, 2024, the two units have coordinated to carry out inspection and control procedures for nearly 7.7 million passengers entering and exiting the country; 3.28 million vehicle trips crossing border gates; 9,066 rail vehicle trips.
In addition, the two sides have coordinated in patrolling and controlling 3,083 cases; handled 165 cases of violation, of which 158 cases were related to smuggling and illegal transportation of goods across the border (Customs forces presided over 110 cases, the Border Guard presided over 48 cases); 7 cases and 8 subjects related to drugs...

Coordination for the goal of facilitating trade associated with protecting security and safety
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Customs Luu Manh Tuong acknowledged and praised the results of implementing the coordination regulations of the two units.
The Deputy Director General emphasized: the implementation of coordination regulations between the two units must aim at the highest common goal of facilitating trade, attracting investment and tourism and ensuring security and safety at borders and border gates; effectively preventing and combating smuggling and illegal transportation of goods across borders.
To further improve the effectiveness of coordination in the coming time, the Deputy Director General requests the two units to focus on discussing the difficulties and problems and proposing solutions.
It is necessary to focus on key contents such as: experience in coordination during the Covid-19 pandemic; coordination when there are changes in legal basis; solutions to implement digital border gates and smart border gates; coordination in information exchange, inspection and control of means of transport on entry and exit, luggage of passengers on entry and exit, and import and export goods, patrol, inspection, control, application of measures to detect, prevent, investigate, and handle crimes and law violations...
“In addition, import-export activities of the whole country, including Lang Son area, are experiencing significant growth, especially e-commerce is developing very strongly. So, what are the management requirements, including coordination to both achieve common goals, help units complete their tasks and promote the development of commercial activities associated with security and safety", said the Deputy Director General.
