The Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta Province of An Giang is promoting its textile and garment and footwear industries as key exporters by 2035.

By 2030 it will strive to achieve combined exports of US$860 million and set up three industrial clusters and two industrial parks to attract investors.

An Giang will continue to promote the development of textile and garment and footwear through 2035 to make them among its key production and export industries.

To achieve these goals, vice chairman of the province's People's Committee Lê Văn Phước said until 2030 An Giang would focus on investing in innovative production equipment, productivity and quality products and design and branding.

It would also promote the export of textiles and garments and footwear and exploit mid-level and high-end product lines.

“In attracting investment, the province will continue to prioritise fashion design and industrial products. It also encourages the development of local brands to exploit the domestic market and aim for exports."

After 2030 it will focus on comprehensive development, improving quality and rapidly increasing the use of local materials in the textile and garment and footwear industries.

The province will focus on mid-level and high-end textiles, garments, leather and footwear products to meet buyers’ requirements and create higher added value for the industry.

It plans to persify the export markets or these products, reducing dependence on traditional ones.

It will also prioritise attracting competitive textile, garment and footwear projects and supporting natural and environment-friendly production.

Nguyễn Minh Hùng, director of its Department of Industry and Trade, said the export performance was positive in 2023, with those of key products like textiles and garments and footwear increasing in terms of both output and turnover compared to 2022.

They also went to new and demanding markets, indicating steady improvements in quality and design, he added.

Overall exports topped $1.17 billion, an increase of 1.42 per cent from 2022, with textiles and garments and footwear fetching $170 million.

In the first quarter of 2024 exports increased by 5.32 per cent year-on-year to over $300 million.

Textile and garment and footwear exports accounted for $60.8 million, a 15.4 per cent increase.
