Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the statement at a reception for the Chairman of Indonesian Chamber of Industry and Trade (KADIN) Rosan Perkasa Roeslani on October 12th as part of his ongoing visit to attend the ASEAN Leaders’ Gathering in Bali, Indonesia.

According to the Vietnamese government leader, trade and investment cooperation between the two Asian nations remained modest and still below their full potential, while highlighting KADIN’s important role in advancing economic cooperation and supporting business connectivity.

He expressed his desire for more collaboration between KADIN and the Vietnam Chamber of Industry and Trade (VCCI) to beef up cooperation between Vietnamese and Indonesian enterprises in the future.

He requested that KADIN put forth a number of measures to ease regulations on imported goods from Vietnam, and enhance closer collaboration in the process of appraising certificates of origin (C/O), grant certificates for agriculture, fisheries, and animal and plant quarantine.

KADIN Chairman Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, in turn, commended Vietnam’s success in opening up their domestic market and attracting foreign investment, which can serve as a valuable lesson for Indonesia, saying that he himself has invested in the hotel and tourism sectors in Vietnam.

PM Phuc suggested both sides should open more direct air routes between the two nations, particularly to tourist attractions in order to cater to the demand of both populations for more travel options.

He affirmed Vietnam’s willingness to support the KADIN Chairman in organizing tourism promotion seminars in the future.
