According to the case profile, the above shipment consisted of two containers which arrived at Cat Lai port on November 18^th 2016. The manifest showed wood imported from Africa. The consignee is Kim Thanh Import Export Commodity Logistics Co., Ltd, registered address is in District 2, Ho Chi Minh City.

Through monitoring and detecting suspicious signs, on 24^th November 2016, the Customs Enforcement Team- HCMC Customs Department in collaboration with Sai Gon port area 1 Customs Branch, C74- Ministry of Public Security and Border guards of Ho Chi Minh City port inspected these two containers. As a result, they detected 619 kgs of ivory hidden inside wood blocks.

The hidden ivory of the subjects in this case is more sophisticated than the other case of ivory seized at the port of Cat Lai earlier.

After placing the ivory inside hollow blocks, they poured white wax around the block. In particular, the subjects did not use iron screws to close the blocks of wood as usual, they used wood screws.

According to Customs officials, this new method of subjects is aim to create continuous wood in order to avoid detection when scanning.
