The workshop had participation of Mr Nguyễn Công Bình, Deputy Director of General Department of Customs; Mr. Diego Garica Gonzalez, Director of Customs Program under the APEC Secretariat 2017.

In fact, Vietnam Customs has established the Steering Committee to organize the activities of the Sub-Committee on Customs Procedures (SCCP) APEC 2017 in Vietnam. Mr Nguyễn Công Bình, Deputy Director of the General Department of Customs, stated that: “Continuing the success of SCCP 2016, Vietnam has received the transfer procedure from Peru in order to host SCCP APEC 2017. This is the second time, after 10 years, when Vietnam hosted APEC 2006 and it is an importance milestone to celebrate 20 years since Vietnam joined APEC.”

With the changes in appearance and stature in Vietnam after two decades and the change in reform and modernization of Customs administration, it is hoped that APEC 2017 in general and SCCP APEC 2017 in particular will be another opportunity in a new space after APEC Peru 2016 for the economy to continue dialogue and exchanges, create further impetus for regional connections and promote deep regional integration.

The workshop on identifying theme and priorities for Customs in APEC 2017 in Vietnam is the first operation in the framework of SCCP 2017 with the desire to be the best platform for preparing SCCP APEC 2017 and contributing to the next successful meeting of SCCP in Vietnam.

In the increasingly complex context of the world faced with security issues in the fight against terrorism, illegal migration and controlling the movement of goods in the smuggling and transport of drugs in sophisticated large quantities; and security challenges in the digital era trade; or pressure to maintain sustainable economic growth to adapt to climate change, ... all entail responsibility and power linking Customs forces and international areas in which our responsibility is to ensure the security of the lifeline for the region of strategic importance such as APEC, Deputy General Director Nguyen Cong Binh stressed.

Accordingly, based on the themes and priorities of APEC in 2017, it will focus on strengthening capacity-building activities, ratification and implementation of the Agreement to facilitate the trade of the World Trade Organization; enhancing supply chain connectivity framework that emphasizes content Customs transit ... with long-term goals; complete connectivity of the Single Window which aims to promote administrative reform to facilitate trade; enterprise development program priorities and strengthening the Customs-Enterprise cooperation; information technology development and application of risk management, information analysis before goods arrive; E-commerce development boundary; Enforcement of IPR protection across borders.
