Preliminary assessment of Vietnam international merchandise trade performance in the second half of September, 2022

The Vietnam Customs Statistics announced that in the second half of September, 2022 the total Vietnam’s exports of US dollars 17.1 billion and imports of nearly US dollars 14.66 billion resulted in a trade surplus of US dollars 2.44 billion.

Accordingly, the total value of export and import turnover of Vietnam in the second half of September was over US dollars 31.76 billion, up by 20.6% as compared to the first half of September-2022. Furthermore, in the first 9 months of 2022, Vietnam was in trade surplus of USD 6.76 million.

Vietnam‘s trade-in-goods in the first 9 months of 2022 totaled US dollars 557.93 billion in value terms, up by 15% as compared to the performance of the same period of last year.

In the view of Foreign Direct Invested (FDI) traders, the total value of exportation and importation in the first 9 months of 2022 reached USD 387.77 billion, up by 15.2% in comparison to the same period of 2021.

Export:

As compared to the first half of September-2022, second half of the month increase in the total export value (34.2% - USD 4.35 billion equally) is reflected by upturn in computer, electrical and part thereof (up by 71.4% - USD 1.36 billion); machine, tools and equipments (up by 33% - USD 587 million equally); telephone mobile phones and parts thereof (up by 16.5% - USD 381 millions); textile and garments (up by 25.7% - USD 311 million…

Totally, in the first 9 months of 2022 total export value from Vietnam was USD 282.35 billion, up by 17.2% as compared to the same period of 2021 (equivalent to USD 41.46 billion in absolute value terms).

Import:

The first half to second half of September widen in the total of import value (7.9%) reflected upturn in telephone mobile phones and parts thereof (up by 29% - USD 243 millions); computer, electrical and part thereof (up by 5.2% - USD 169 million); petroleum products (up by 74.7% - USD 168 million equally).

From January to second half of September-2022, total import value into Vietnam was USD 275.58 billion, went up by 12.8% as compared to the same period of 2021 (equivalent to USD 31.26 billion in absolute value terms).
