Preliminary assessment of Vietnam international merchandise trade performance in the second half of April, 2024

In the view of Foreign Direct Invested (FDI) traders, the total value of exportation and importation in the first 4 months of 2024 reached USD 161.64 billion, up by 12.2% (USD 17.61 billion equally) in comparison to the same period of 2023.

Export:

As compared to the first half of April-2024, second half of the month increase in the total export value (5.9% - USD 884 million equally) is reflected by upturn in computer, electrical products, spare-parts and components thereof (up by 15.5% - USD 269 million equally); irons and steels (up by 68.9% - 214 million equally); foot-wear (up by 11.3% - USD 99 million); vegetables and fruits (up by 23.3% - USD 62.8 million);.

Totally, in the first 4 months of 2024 total export value from Vietnam was USD 123.99 billion, climbed up 15.1% as compared to the same period of 2023 (equivalent to USD 16.26 billion in absolute value terms).

Import:

The first half to second half of April shrunk in the total of import value (14.9%) reflected downturn in machine, tools and equipments (down by 19.8% - USD 417 million equally); computer, electrical products , spare-parts and components thereof (down by 8.5% - USD 334 million equally); telephones, mobile phones and parts thereof (down by 34.6% - USD 165 million equally); irons and steels (down by 28.2% - USD 157 million equally).

From January to second half of April-2024, total import value into Vietnam was USD 114.96 billion, went up by 15.1% as compared to the same period of 2023 (equivalent to USD 15.09 billion in absolute value terms).
