Preliminary assessment of Vietnam international merchandise trade performance in the first half of January, 2017

VCN- The Vietnam Customs Statistics announced that in the first half (01-15/01/2017) of January-2017, Vietnam’s total exports of US dollars 7.3 billion and imports of US dollars 7.38 billion resulted in a trade deficit of US dollars 83 million. 

Accordingly, the total value of export and import turnover of Vietnam in the first half of January was US dollars 14.68 billion, shrunk by 16.4% as compared to the second half of December - 2016. In the view of Foreign Direct Invested (FDI) traders, the total value of exportation and importation in the first half of January reached USD 9.39 billion down by 11.4% as compared to the second half of December - 2016 (equal to USD 1.21 billion).

Export:

When compared with the second half of December - 2016, export of first half of January decreased by 15.5% (equally USD 1.34 billion), mostly as a result of the decline registered in following products: textiles and garments (down by 22.5% - USD 287 million equally); computer electrical products spare parts and component thereof (down by 14.6% - USD 138 million equally); fishery products(down by 28.6% - USD 104 million equally); wood and wooden products (down by 23.8% - USD 97 million equally)…

It was also showed by Vietnam Customs Statistics that export value of some commodities widen in the first half of January, which included: telephone, mobile phones and part thereof (up by 9.1% - USD 110 million equally); tyre cord fabrics and other fabrics for technical uses (up by 40.9% - USD 6 million equally); clinke and cement (up by 8.4% - USD 2 million equally)…​

Import:

In the first half of January 2017, import decreased by 17.2% (USD 1.54 billion equally) when compared with second half of December - 2016, mainly reflecting the shrunk of machine, equipment, tools and instruments (down by 19.4% - USD 320 million equally); petroleum products (down by 55.6% - USD 253 million equally); computer electrical products spare parts and component thereof (down by 10.2% - USD 128 million equally); telephone, mobile phone and part thereof (down by 18.2% - USD 94 million equally)…

Widen occurred in importation of some commodities such as: other means of transportation (up by 43.4% - USD 15 million equally); animal fodders and animal fodder materials (up by 11.3% - USD 18 million); liquefied petroleum gases(up by 1.2 times - USD 20 million equally)…

Highlights 1. According to trade statistics of Vietnam Customs, in February of 2024, a 26.7% downwards in total external merchandise turnover of Vietnam was recorded as compared to the result of January 2024.
