Preliminary assessment of Vietnam international merchandise trade performance in the first half of April, 2020

Vietnam‘s trade-in-goods from January to the first half of April of 2020 totaled US dollars 140.7 billion in value terms. It posted a growth of 3.1% (equivalent to USD 4.2 billion) from the same period of previous year. In which, the total merchandise exports value was up 4.5% to nearly US dollars 71.60 billion and the total merchandise imports value was up 1.7%, to US dollars 69.09 billion.

In the view of FDI traders, the value of exportation and importation in the first half of April reached USD 10.56 billion, down by 32.4% as compared to the second half of March 2020. Therefore, from January to April 15th of 2020, the total value of FDI merchandise trade went up 1.2% to US dollar 87.97 billion.

When compared with the second half of March-2020, export of first half of April down by 36.3%, mostly as a result of the downward registered in telephone, mobile phone and part thereof (down by 52.1% - USD 1.38 billion); computer electrical products and part thereof (down by 31.6% - USD 668 million); textiles and garments (down by 36% - USD 416 million); machine tool & equipments (down by 33.6% - USD 389 million)…

In the first half of April 2020, import increased by 19.6% when compared with the second half of march, mainly reflecting the downturn of computer, electrical products, spare-parts and components thereof (down by 30.4% - USD 827 million); telephone, mobile phones (down by 27.9% - USD 167 million); crude oil (down by 71.4% - USD 184 million)…
